Gun Control In Canada?

Americans learned why we cannot allow liberals to run the government, but Canadians may be starting to learn how liberal ideas do not work. The violent crime rate in Canada is but one example.

"Canada's gun control scheme has not just failed, it has failed disastrously. Clear evidence of that can be found in a comparison of the crime rates for Canada and the U.S. While advocates of Canada's type of restrictive gun laws will play with raw figures and show how many more homicides there might be in such cities as Chicago or Miami or Detroit than there are in Toronto, the real story is found by comparing the per capita crime rates. Do that, and you will discover that Canada's crime rate is skyrocketing while down in the states, overall crime is declining.

The situation is so bad that in the Jan. 3 edition of Canada's National Post, writer David Frum startled readers by revealing that "Canada's overall crime rate is now 50% higher than the crime rate in the United States." He further noted, "Since the early 1990s, crime rates have dropped in 48 of the 50 states and 80% of American cities. Over that same period, crime rates have risen in six of the 10 Canadian provinces and in seven of Canada's 10 biggest cities."

I recently qualified for a Texas Concealed Carry license. Texas learned long ago, if your law abiding citizens are able to arm themselves, the crooks are going to think twice about trying to victimize them, and crime will decrease. Perhaps Canada is learning the difference between liberal and conservative governing.

"A Strategic Counsel poll for The Globe and Mail and CTV News said support for the Conservatives held steady at 39 percent, while support for the ruling Liberal Party slipped by one point to 27 percent.

An EKOS poll for The Toronto Star and La Presse put the Conservatives at 37.6 percent and the Liberals at 28.3 percent. A previous EKOS survey put the Conservatives at 39.1 percent and the Liberals at 26.8 percent.
"The race is now the Tories' (Conservatives') to lose, and their game looks pretty sound," EKOS President Frank Graves told the Toronto Star."

There are so many ways to debunk the left's case on any given subject, when armed with the facts and given their own hypocritical approaches, i.e., it's okay to kill babies, but not Tookie Williams. What is refreshing is to see our neighbors to the north "get it"!

Not Unprecidented; Two In A Day

It's not often, and it has been a long time, but I am actually going to post twice in the same day! I remember my pal Bunker Mulligan's penchant for popping in and out several times a day, depending on what struck his fancy, and I guess he gives me license. [Every once in awhile, I feel like he's that tiny angel sitting on my shoulder...part of me says he is! I would link his site, but it's been taken down since his sudden and untimely death.]

So what inspired me today? It was this headline:

"France defends right to nuclear reply to terrorism "

I scratched my head, and said to my husband, "That is uncharacteristic!" That is until I read the story.

"BREST, France (Reuters) - France said on Thursday it would be ready to use nuclear weapons against any state that carried out a terrorist attack against it, reaffirming the need for its nuclear deterrent. "

The words "any state" says it all. Al Qaeda is not a state, is it? Nope! Then who might the threat be coming from? Iraq? The Iraqis now know the true extent of France's involvement in the Oil for Food program, and they are not fans of the French as a result. Saddam's carefully maintained records of who sold what to whom, are now in the Iraqi government's hands. So is Iraq's success the cause of their concern?

Or could the recent riots in France have something to do with it? Is Chirac flexing his muscles in the same manner as Iran's President? Or just trying to scare off any potential boogey men? Sure wish I could be the proverbial fly on the wall!

OBL + MSM + American Left = Same Message

You heard it correctly, Osama bin Laden [or someone who sounds like him] has released a statement! He must be getting the same faxes the DNC sends out to their comrades in the mainstream media.

"But Bush does not want this and claims that it's better to fight his enemies on their land rather than on American land.

"Bush tried to ignore the polls that demanded that he end the war in Iraq."

I don't know what polls Dean sent him, but the ones I've seen say that 60% or more of Americans polled want us to finish the job!

"The new operations of al-Qaida has not happened not because we could not penetrate the security measures. It is being prepared and you'll see it in your homeland very soon," the voice attributed to bin Laden said, apparently addressing Americans."

This one has the DNC salivating! They are probably already producing campaign commercials! They'll say "See, Bush is not keeping you safer!". They won't read it for what it is: "We're decimated, we need time to rebuild, and we can't penetrate American security!"

"This message is about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and how to end those wars," it began.

"It was not my intention to talk to you about this, because those wars are definitely going our way."

Correct translation, "Not only are we getting our butts kicked, but the Iraqi people are sick and damn tired of us killing other Muslims!"

"But what triggered my desire to talk to you is the continuous deliberate misinformation given by your President [George] Bush, when it comes to polls made in your home country which reveal that the majority of your people are willing to withdraw US forces from Iraq."

DNC Talking Point: "Bush Lied!" The polls, some of them, do reflect the disinformation campaign of the MSM, but Americans who care about Iraqis and our soldiers have done their homework, and know this is a crock of doo-doo!

"We are getting increasingly stronger while your situation is getting from bad to worse," he told the US, referring to poor US troop morale and the huge economic losses inflicted by the war."

This might be the biggest lie of all! Troop morale is NOT POOR, but very HIGH! All one needs to do is to ask them, and the internet has given us a myriad of ways to do that! Not to mention that a bigger group of AQ's folks were taken out in that Pakistani strike than we're admitting, but you can bet OBL knows he is missing several of his most important lieutenants!

"In response to the substance of the polls in the US, which indicate that Americans do not want to fight Muslims on Muslim land, nor do they want Muslims to fight them on their land, we do not mind offering a long-term truce based on just conditions that we will stick to."

Wait! Didn't he offer a truce to Spain & UK just before their trains were hit? You can bet security measures will be stepped up on our trains!

"We are a nation that Allah banned from lying and stabbing others in the back, hence both parties of the truce will enjoy stability and security to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan, which were destroyed by war."

Banned from lying and stabbing others in the back? Is he serious? What about cutting the heads off of non-combatants? What about blowing up women and children?

This whole statement smells of panic and defeat. He's playing for time, and trying to show bravado to those in Saudi Arabia and other countries who provide him with funds. He's trying to reassure them so that they will continue to send him money. Nothing more, nothing less. And our American left is handing him his talking points!

Her Unwashed Masses

Nancy Pelosi was confronted by her own constituency at a recent Town Hall meeting in San Francisco. It seems to me that many Democrats have to be wondering who they've climbed in bed with, and what they have to do to keep these moonbats happy!

"When she'd finished her thought, she looked down at the solid row of pink- and black-clad protesters now forming a barricade in front of the stage.

"Hello," she said cheerfully.

"This is how we know we're in San Francisco,'' chimed in moderator Paul Wells, a local radio host.

The protest illustrates the tightrope Pelosi must walk as she tries to keep in touch with her liberal San Francisco constituents, while maintaining leadership of a Democratic minority in Congress with views that are clearly to the right of her own. "

My favorite sound byte from the meeting was when she was complaining that everyone had been saying that Democrats could not "stop something with nothing" referring to their inability to come up with their own ideas, and can only complain about GOP ideas and proposals. In fact, she went so far at to say "Oh yes we can!". At least someone on the left is willing to admit it! That these folks are actually considering running someone else to challenge her, says lots about the left!

It is going to be a long long time before they can win back any arm of the government through the elective processes. Guess they'll have to rely on government worker union members to screw things up for the rest of us.

Happy Birthday, Dr. King

I don't know if it was going back to my 40th high school class reunion this past summer, or if my reaching the half century plus nearly a decade, has something to do with it. What I do know is that this MLK Day was very thought provoking for me, with a plethora of memories floating to the surface. I remember November 22nd, of 1963. For those of you too young to remember, that is the day JFK was assassinated. I thought of him as having been a champion of civil rights, until I learned that it was pressure from civil rights activists, and the Republicans pushing civil rights legislation, that made him look at the problem. It was the media who made him the "champion of civil rights", not reality.

I have also remembered the news coverage of the civil rights struggles in the South. For most of my life, I was absolutely opposed to the idea of the south, with its racial strife. If you had asked me back then...or up until 10 years ago, if I could ever see myself living here, I'd have told you there was NO WAY. Not only that, but I would not even entertain the idea of visiting the south. The myth the MSM has fed for decades is that racism is pervasive throughout the south. I have seen no evidence of that, at least here in San Antonio. I live in what could be called an upper-middle class neighborhood, and I have black neighbors 3 houses away from mine. No one suggested that resale might be lessened by their presence, or the black family another half block away. Our women's club has black, hispanic, and oriental members. It's another one of those things that tells me I've been lied to in the past.

I remember a special pal of mine in high school. We called her Cindy, but her real given name was Cinderella. Her parents had high hopes for this adorable princess-to-be. I identified with her, as she was even shorter than me, and that was, and still is, a rarity. I remember thinking how proud I was of being a part of a Democrat family. The Democrats were responsible for the legislation, right? I was so excited for Cindy, and other of my friends who were black, when the civil rights bill was signed into law by a Democrat President Johnson. Now my friends would always have the same rights as me because of the Democrats.

It wasn't until decades later that I would learn the extent of the lies I had been fed. Lyndon Baines Johnson has been a Texas Democrat senator for decades before running with JFK as his VP candidate. For all those decades, LBJ had fought AGAINST civil rights legislation! What I learned when I researched the issue [to prove Rush Limbaugh wrong for having said Republicans were authors of the legislation] I discovered much more than I bargained for, in regards to my Democrat upbringing.

One of the unpleasant surprises I had to face was that, not only had Republicans authored civil rights legislation, but they had been doing so since 1888, with no success. It was not until Martin Luthor King came along, that Democrats were forced by public outcry to go along with it.

There was some poetic justice in President Johnson's being forced to sign the legislation he'd fought against as a Senator. However, knowing the close-knit family units in the black communities, he set up a welfare state wherein mothers would be forced to be single to receive public assistance. He effectively tore the black family apart! History has born out the severe penalty this program has caused Black America. He did it, according to historians, "to tie the blacks to the Democrat party for another half century". It has mostly succeeded.

I watched the posing of Donks, Shrillary Clinton in particular, all over the country on Martin Luther King's birthday and it occured to me, if Dr. King were alive today, he'd be a Republican.

P. S. I refuse to say the Democrat"IC" party. They are Democrats, who are mostly socialist"IC".

MSM & Sports

As a displaced Bronco fan, it was a thrill to get to see my team prevail in the playoff game against the New England Patriots last night...take that, sKerry! Yahoo! However, at the end of the game I was amazed at the announcers' comments. If you watched it, you may know what I mean, but the gist of it, as shorthand rundown, is that the Patriots were real troopers, they kept plugging along...not one stinking word about the Broncos performance!

I've posted often about the bias in the media, and having been a Bronco fan for decades, I've always known that they were not media darlings, even when John Elway was pulling games out in the last 20 seconds! So it really should not have surprised me, right? I've been a recent Texan, and coverage of the Broncs has been limited to when they play a Texas team, so I've not followed them all that closely. My husband is not a football fan, and it is not as much fun cheering alone, as with a group of like-minded fans.

What it did do, was to remind me of the Rush Limbaugh/ESPN debacle. Remember when Rush made that comment about Donovan McNab?

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said on Sunday. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

Though Mr. Limbaugh's critique was about the MSM's bias, not about McNab, it was taken as "racial". Even though the MSM was being racially motivated in their glowing reports about McNab. Why is it that the liberals, whether the press or the politicos, insist on believing members of minorities need to be bolstered, pandered to, or favored, as though they are less capable? This sort of racism burns me up! The President calls it "soft" racism, but nothing about it seems cuddley to me.

See there? I got off topic, and on a rant. What I wanted to point out was the bias against any team that does not reside in a blue state! I guess I got off track with their biases...sorry. They have so many!

A Blog Request

It is rare that my husband requests that I blog post on something. In fact, today was only the second time. The incident that spurred his fury enough to say, "There's something I want you to blog about!!!" was when he saw Mrs. Alito flee the Senate chambers in tears. After a full day of sitting there listening to the castigations and rude inquiries from moral paragons like Ted Kennedy, the same man who allowed a young woman to die in a creek, was kicked out of Harvard for cheating, and is known to have joined in the infamous waitress sandwich with a fellow senator, Mrs. Alito had had it! Her quivering lips and sad face was seen over her husband's right shoulder just prior her escape. After a short recess, she bravely returned, but by then, the damage was done. Her smile did not seem to include her eyes. I wonder how many great leaders we lose because of this treatment?

The heated exchange between Kennedy and Arlen Specter today, wherein Specter accused Teddy of trying to take over the committee, left me wondering what Arlen's true upset was all about. You know how we humans will blow up over some little nothing of an issue, when there is a far deeper reason for the blow-up? I got the distinct impression that there was something far deeper eliciting Mr. Specter's angst-filled response. Anyone know what it was truly all about? Here's a transcript of the exchange:

"SPECTER: Quite candidly, I view the request... If it's really a matter of importance, you and I see each other all the time and you have never mentioned it to me, and I do not ascribe a great deal of weight. We actually didn't get a letter, but --

KENNEDY: You did get a letter, are you saying?

SPECTER: Well, now wait a minute. You don't know what I got. I'm about to --

KENNEDY: Yes I do, senator, since I sent it.

SPECTER: Well, the sender does not necessarily know what the recipient gets, Senator Kennedy. You are not in a position to say what I receive.

KENNEDY: Heh-heh-heh.

SPECTER: If you'll bear with me for one minute --

KENNEDY: But, uh, uh, I am in a position to say what I sent to you on December 22.

SPECTER: You're in a position to tell me what you sent.

KENNEDY: I renew my request, senator, and if I'm going to be denied, then I'd appeal the decision of the chair.

SPECTER: Don't be premature, Senator Kennedy. I'm not about to make a ruling on this state of the record.

KENNEDY: Mr. Chairman, I'd, uh, appeal the ruling of the chair on this.

SPECTER: There has been no ruling of the chair! "

Did anyone wonder why the Republicans did not treat Justice Ruth Bader Ginzberg to similar treatment when Clinton nominated her? I certainly have...except I understand that the GOP does not want to be seen as petty, unlike the donks. Unfortunately! This is a woman who has suggested that the Constitution may make marriage illegal, who thinks we should have coed prisons, and other ideas that only a far left liberal could come up with...but did the GOP didn't rake her over the coals as they have done with all GOP nominees dating back to Judge Bork. These donk paragons of virtue treated Clarence Thomas like a sex offender, with absolutely no proof of wrongdoing! They have accused even Janice Rogers Brown of being a racist!!

As much as we, hubby and I, hate what they are doing to this fine man and his family, there is a tiny chuckle that rises up when we think of the consequences this will have for the donks in November.

Rants On Alito & More

I firmly believe that if they turned the cameras off, they already would have voted on Judge Alito's appointment. Teddy (hic) Kennedy and his acolytes are basing their comments and questions on the talking points provided by moveon.org & the left wing bloggers. As usual, the Judge is making them look like under-educated monkeys. As circuses go, this one gets boring rapidly. You've heard it all before! Get on with it, and quit spending our tax dollars on this exercise in futility!

...and More

Fox & Friends had a woman on yesterday who is suing Applebee's Restaurant. Apparently, the server who was waiting on her and her son lost patience with her 5 year old's inability to decide what he wanted to drink. She admitted that her child was "acting up". The server [who was fired later] decided to anesthetize the child by serving him a Long Island Iced Tea in his sippy cup, rather than the apple juice that had been ordered. When it was discovered, the mom called an ambulance, further traumatizing the tyke, and is suing for $75,000.00 for costs and trauma to the child.

The question I want to ask overindulgent parents is this: Do you believe that total strangers will tolerate your child's misbehavior and reward them for misbehaving by giving them what they want, as you do? Reality check here: If your child misbehaves in public, as he or she does at home, he or she will not be treated nicely. Teach your child manners, but more importantly, teach them that there are consequences for their behavior, be it good or bad behavior, if you want them to be treated well by strangers. You are doing them no favors by allowing them to "act up" in public.

Hints to know if you are overly indulgent as a parent: 1) Do neighbors or friends cringe when you show up with the kid in tow? 2) Do your parents refuse to babysit? 3) In a restaurant, do older adults frown at your table several times during your meal? 4) Do you feel like your child is more in charge of your life than you are?

Your child is a consequence of YOUR bad behavior, but they are the ones who will have to pay for it. Shame on you.

There. I feel better now.

The Truth About Unions

In this case, the National Education Association, or as we know them, the NEA. Thanks to Secretary Elaine Chao, we now have a version of "truth in donating". Sec. Chao decided it was about time unions were made to disclose to the public, and more importantly their members, just what it is they are doing with the union dues! What? You hadn't heard this on any MSM? How about this?

Newsmax was on top of Sec. Chao's job performance;

"This rule requires large labor unions to give much more detailed information about how they spend the dues they collect from the workers who belong to the unions than they ever have before. Presently, there are broad categories of expenditures listed, but the unions do not have to disclose any details about these categories. "

Though the unions screamed bloody murder, the rule was accomplished, and the truth was learned by bloggers and talk radio.

The problem with the rule is that unless the members of the union complain about the contributions, it cannot be implemented.

"This all takes place in the wake of the 1988 Communications Workers v Beck Supreme Court decision where the court ruled that expenses made by a union not attached to the "financial core" of collective bargaining and other legitimate union functions, could not be made compulsory.

In other words, money spent by the union on political activity had to be refunded to any members who objected to the expense. In 2001, the AFL-CIO had $164,246,963 in expenses and 13,250,198 members. It spent over $40 million in the 2000 elections, engaging over 1,600 "coordinators" in 35 states, according to a February 2000 article in the Washington Post."

The question I want to ask of members of the NEA is this: Do you approve of your union giving your hard earned dollars to the like of moveon.org? With an administrative budget as large as theirs, and nearly two-thirds of them making 6 figures, if I were a teacher & member, I'd be keeping a better eye on what this left-wing group is doing with my money! In fact, were I a member of any union, I'd be asking the same questions. Now that you have this rule, use it!

A Bit Of Home

One of my favorite Iraqi bloggers is Sam at Hammorabi. He has some pictures posted that you will not find anywhere in American media, but they are pictures that we should be seeing regularly to remind us of what animals we are fighting.

One of the things I love most about blogs, are the comments that people from all over the universe leave for the blogger. One of those comments caught my attention:

"While my wife was in Iraq, I started Operation: A Bit of Home. My wife called me and told me she had to put on 80 lbs. of battle gear, pick up her rifle, and walk 2 miles in 140 degree heat to buy soap and tampons and toothpaste. She told me that the government does not supply any sanitary or entertainment items to our troops.

I decided that I would not have my wife doing that. I started shipping boxes to her unit in Iraq, in large quantities. One day I got a phone call from a place in Baghdad called Freedom Rest. They stated they were the only R&R facility in Iraq for our troops. They get soldiers that have been in combat, on convoys, or high stress dangerous situations and give them 3 days and nights of R&R, good food, a pool, games, a soft bed and goodies. They process hundreds of soldiers in-and-out each day. By supplying hygiene, snack and entertainment items to Freedom Rest, we have directly affected the lives of over 23,000 soldiers."

I checked out the site, and was impressed. Check it out for yourselves. Who says one person cannot make a difference?

Not Enough Dirt?

Apparently the donks
do not have enough of what they consider to be "Alito Stoppers":

"Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter had hoped to hold a committee vote on Alito’s nomination on Jan. 17, a little over a week from the Monday start of the federal appellate judge’s confirmation hearings.

But Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid told Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., on Thursday that Democrats will invoke their right to hold the Alito committee vote over for one week, Senate leadership aides told The Associated Press. "

So the donks want to put the hearings on hold. What I want to know is, who is the majority party? The GOP, right? Can someone in Washington D. C. who is an elected Republican, please find your backbone, have it reinserted, and STOP these people!!?!!

You might start with these folks. There are 40 of them: Donks who got money from Jack Abramoff, though the MSM would have us believe only Republicans did. Harry Reid received over $68,000 from Abramoff, perhaps you should remind him of that little fact. Who knows, he might just shut up for a change! Oops, that's right. He denies he received any money from Abramoff, even though the records show he did.

As usual, the donks are taking their marching orders from their kook base [caution: link contains rude language]. I rather hope they keep up their ridiculous postuing. What I have a real problem with is the wimpiness of our side! Come on, Republicans, wake up and stop letting these kook-run donks have their way!

Rose Bowl Quandry

As the kickoff time for tonight's Rose Bowl approached, I was really in a bit of a quandry trying to decide to which team my heart and enthusiasm would go....but it was not even time for the kick off for me to decide.

Yes, I am a new Texan. I also grew up in SoCal. You have to understand the connection of my high school alma mater, the Olympians, and the USC Trojans. Their fight songs were the very same fight songs we used at our high school. I hear their songs, and instead of "Go you Trojans", I substitute "Go Olympians". The Greek connection was not the only reason for my USC enthusiasm. The USC greats of that era had much to do with it, too. I remember the awesome Rose Bowl game that OJ Simpson ran 100+ yards in the last 2 seconds of the game. I remember the games that Lynn Swann & Marcus Allen wowed the stadium...what a tough call.

Or so I thought it would be. The game had not even begun when my true FANaticism took over. As Leean Rimes was singing the National Anthem, and our true heroes in uniform presented the colors of our country, I noticed that the Longhorn players from Texas were standing with their hands over their hearts, and some were mouthing the words of the song.

The USC Trojans didn't seem to take notice. They get more "hate America" than "love America" in their school than in a Texas school...even in Austin.

Decision made.

Post Note: Lynn Swann is running in the gubernatorial race in his home state of Pennsylvania. Will I be donating to his campaign! Absolutely.

Michael Mooreon Returns

What is the walking cheeseburger up to this time? Sounds like he's still got his grubby fist firmly planted around the shoulders of The Screamer, Dean, and the rest of the Democrat hierarcy. What is their favorite mantra? Health care, right? If it is not schools, it's health care. So what is the subject of Mooreon's newest film "Sicko"? You guessed it!

"This time last year, word was that the incendiary auteur behind "Fahrenheit 9/11" had the country's top pharmaceutical companies looking over their shoulders in anticipation of "Sicko," his look at the American healthcare industry."

We all know, after the unveiling of his last hatchett job, that no self-respecting drug company rep or exec is going to let his unwashed person to come near their office, right? So what's his modus operendi going to be this time?

"But reports have said that Moore is using hidden cameras in doctors' offices to expose corruption within the drug biz. And a person close to the project says the helmer was most recently in Miami shooting at a weight-loss clinic."

With his propensity for cut and paste movie making, I'm sure we can expect a highly reliable rendition of reality in the Healthcare industry, right? And coming out just in time for the Donks to use as they run their campaigns for the '06 congressional races, too! Imagine that. Hang on to your wallets, folks. The Donks & their lawyer pals are reaching for them again, with the active assistance of Hollywierd & the MSM.
